Unduhagge demo v1.3: Been a while, folks...


I was beginning to worry that I wouldn't show my face here again at all. So up top,  I want to acknowledge my indebtedness and gratitude to Moucky2333 for making this update happen.

And damn was it overdue.

I had, shortly after Demo v1.2, started work on a number of bug fixes and a few locations. And then, life got in the way as it does. Other things took priority. Other projects reared their ugly heads. But when someone comes up to you and says "Hey, your passion project that you lost passion for has a lot of bugs," and you know that people are still playing it, well...you gotta fix those bugs.

So I picked up where I left off from my aborted patch attempt, sorted through Moucky2333's copious notes, and set out to create...

Unduhagge Demo v1.3.


Without further ado... patch notes:

Features

  • Added a subworld: Night Owl's Domain
  • Added a subworld: Pierced Desert
  • Added an unnamed subworld
  • Added interiors to some of the buildings in the White Space; also added a few environmental elements and addressed a rendering issue.

General improvements and changes

  • Screw needing 'speed up' items: Press Shift to toggle sprinting while dreaming! The hoverboard still works, though, and it's EVEN FASTER!
  • Save data now shows how many CDs and Effects you've collected.
  • Getting the CD Sacred Geometry now requires solving a minor maze puzzle in Escheria.
  • The entrance to the Endless House now offers some visual hints.
  • There's something a little different about one of the paintings in the Gallery...
  • Footstep sound effects have been greatly expanded and, in most cases, are matched to the surface Mina is stepping on.
  • Mina's portrait now looks more like a human and less like a weird gremlin drawn by a prepubescent llama. It's not perfect, but it's a vast technical improvement.
  • Created an improved randomizing system for things like flickering lights and staggered sounds.
  • The Balloons environment is now smaller, connects subworlds, and has more stuff in it. Enjoy the lungs.
  • The Neuronal Realm is less open-ended, making it slightly easier to navigate.
  • Added some art to the gallery.
  • Better music for Brickworld.
  • Wrote new CD music, Anxiety at 3 AM, found in the Neuronal Realm. Originally, this CD was supposed to be removed until I had music for it, but due to some bug I still don't understand, the CD event was still rendering.

Gameplay bugs

  • It was possible to pinch awake and have a long load time between the action and waking up, and input wasn't locked, so players could move around during the awakening cycle. This meant you could wind up waking up nowhere near the couch or bed.
  • The CD in the Gameshow environment now correctly gives you "...of the Dead" instead of "royal blues" again.
  • At the beginning of the game, players would acquire the Help item twice.
  • The Feather Pen wasn't meant to be readily available and should only be acquirable if you play Royal Blues before going to sleep.
  • The 'footstep' sound would play whenever you entered a new environment.
  • The CD in the Neuronal Realm couldn't be picked up (see General improvements section for more info).

Portal bugs

  • A house in the Stone Village should have gone to the Ghost Castle, but it was going to a dead end in the Poison Pools.
  • A door in the Inkscape took you to the main explorable White Space, but this was not intended. Instead, this door now takes you to the Night Owl's Domain.
  • The corresponding door from the previous fix now takes you to a building interior.
  • A portal in the White Space was busted and has been fixed.
  • A door in the Stone Village was previously a one way dead end, but now it can also lead to the Night Owl's Domain.
  • The teleportation between Escheria and the Poison Pools via the artifact shrine portal was busted.
  • The Gallery is now no longer a dead end.
  • Balloons is no longer a dead end.

Various graphics glitch fixes

  • Tiles in the Cloudscape were animating when they should have been static.
  • Background draw style for main menu was busted after leaving uOS
  • Fixed a graphical glitch in the Stone Village.
  • The Cauldron Witch changed graphics depending on how you faced her when talking to her.
  • The door leading from the Ghost Castle to the Boiler Room was missing a background
  • The door leading from the Space Lab to the Boiler Room was very graphically misleading
  • The background for the door leading from the Boiler Room to the Ghost Castle rendered above the player
  • Removed the 'rotate' effect to spotlights (mushroom rooms and the yellow caves) because it causes the game to chug, and it didn't add that much visually.
